Barbering
Foundational barbering basics, head shape & composition, clipper work, scissor work, texturizing techniques, client building and product & sales knowledge.
Introduction:
The purpose of this program is to prepare students for employment as restricted barbers (SOC 39-5011) or barbers (SOC 39-5011). Instruction is designed to qualify students for employment upon successfully passing the Florida Restricted Barber or Barber License Examination. The content includes but is not limited to communication skills, leadership skills, human relations skills and employability skills, safe and efficient work practices; Florida barber law and rules, knowledge of barbering and its related chemistry, bacteriology, anatomy and physiology; development of skill in performing the manipulative technique required in the practice of barbering.

Employment of barbers, hairstylists, and cosmetologists is projected to grow 8% from 2018 to 2028.
Salary:
The average wage for this career in Florida is $10.66 hourly or $22,180 annually.
Completion Requirements:
The entire program is 1200 hours. Certain Adult Education Centers do not offer all components of the program. Full completion of the program may be completed at a Technical College. Students can earn a certificate at the completion of the following Occupational Completion Points (OCPs):
