Drafting

Drafters use software to convert the designs of engineers and architects into technical drawings.

Introduction:

This program prepares students for employment in the drafting industry, as well as careers in the Architecture and Construction fields. The content includes freehand sketching, drafting by hand and computer and creating 3D models.

Employment Outlook:

Overall employment of drafters is projected to grow 7% from 2016 to 2026.

Salary:

The average wage for this career in Florida is $23.48 hourly or $48,830 annually.

Completion Requirements:

The entire program is 750 hours. Certain Adult Education Centers do not offer all components of the program.  Full completion of the program may be completed at a Technical College. Students can earn a certificate at the completion of the following Occupational Completion Points (OCPs):

This program offers a broad foundation of knowledge in multi-view drawings, sectional views, auxiliary drawings, basic dimensioning, pictorial drawings, surface developments, basic computer aided drafting functions, and physical 3-D model from a 2-D drawing.
